I have recently set up a tank: 96 litre, 26 degrees cent..

Fish in tank: 2 angels, 2 dwarf gouramis, 3 platies, 2 algae eaters, 3 clown loaches, 4 rosy tetras, 2 crabs.

Some live plants also in tank as well as 2 roots.

Majority of the fish are doing really well, however the angels are not. White Angel is v new (1 week in tank), I found it at the top of the tank on its side looking v distressed, however it appeared to recover and is now always found in upright position. However have noticed that its tail fin is very frayed. General behaviour not very happy but I wasn't sure if this was also because it was new to the tank.

The 2nd angel, one which has been in a previous tank, and has been in the new tank since it was established is also showing signs of its fins fraying. Although in general his behaviour has indicated he is more comfortable in the tank over the last week or so. I have also noticed this morning that his left gill is not functioning, however in general his breathing does not appear laboured.

Not sure if it is relevant, however 2 of the platies also appear to have some damage to tail fin but they seem fine in general, this may be from nipping?

Can anyone throw any light on any of the above symptoms? I've added salt, and also a bacterial treatment but really not sure what else to do?

Thanks

If any of the fish with the angels are attempting to nip their fins the angels may be fraying their own fins trying to get away. the other thing that I don't know much about are the 'crabs' you have? they may be nocturnal feaders and in the process accidentaly trying those long fins for taste.

I don't have a handle on the whole liter thing. that tank is 25-30 gallons? if that is right it sounds abit crowded. the smallest space for a pair of angels is considered to be a 20 gal. and Clown Loaches are prone to disease and early death in any thing smaller than 50 gallons.

If the dammage is minor a change in the chemistry of the water is to blame and I would suggest smaller water changes done more often

whatever the problem was, it seems to have been resolved - I did a 20% water change at the weekend and both angels are looking better every day!

there are 4.54 litres to the gallon so the tank is about 21 gallons. As far as I can tell, and also going on the advice I have been getting from the fish shop, this number of fish is okay - however I will check into it. The clown loaches also seem to be doing great - they are very active, and their colours are also good. I'll try and keep an eye out for the crabs though if the fins get affected again.

thanks for your help.
