My Rio powerhead stopped due to a single snail blocking the impellor. Lucky the motor didn't burn up and after removing the snail, it still works. If you think your powerhead has died, always check further by removing the impellor and cleaning it out.

I've heard that Rio's are junk, and almost threw it out without cleaning it... Hmmm... Maybe it's time to get another since it might be tough to find a small pump like this Rio 50. I'm using it on my Power Reactor for CO2 (100 % diffusion.. :) ).

Joe, I don't have any personal experiences with the Rio - but several reef folks at wetwebmedia who have used it in SW tanks like to call it a compact grenade  Obviously, they don't speak highly of it. just passing this on

hehe, i actually like them secretly myself. i think the clean block shape design looks good inside an aquarium, and the 50/90 models which i use are unsightedly small. the next best thing is that rio supply you with tons of accessories, very convenient when you need to rig something unusual.

my rio 50 is running it's 3rd year now, and i never had a problem with it. maybe because it's running in a lightweight planted aquarium and not in a hardcore marine setup?
