When I wake up in the morning this substance is white and after the light is on for about an hour, it turns to a grayish color. I have tested my tank and everything is at a normal level. I tried to vaccuum it out and it is too heavy and thick to go through the head of my python. Does anyone have a clue what this is and how I may get rid of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :(

Um not sure how'd you get rid of it, but the substace developing on your gravel could very well be a form of algae....Good luck,
mt_marcy!

Could be a fungus...how often are you feeding and what's your bio-load?

could be a version of white Algae. Its not harmful but fish would not prefer it from what I have seen. I used to have this white hairy type stuff growing on my old tank with Swordtails but that tank is obsolete now
