The product description on the bottle claims not to interfere with biological filtration... It claims it can be used to control toxic ammonia during the nitrogen cycle.

I'm fairly new to aquariums and I was just wondering how you all felt about this product. How well does it work? Is it really safe to use while cycling a new tank?

Thanks.

I'm not a chemist, but I use the product and haven't lost a fish since I started using it... I'm sure others here can tell you more about how it works....

It doesn't actually remove ammonia, it just chemically binds with it so there's less ammonia that's in a form that can actually cause harm to fish. Nothing beats regular water changes! :)

Amquel is generally regarded to be a safe product that does what it claims to.

I'll chime in, yes it does work and hasn't caused any problems in my tanks with cycling or had any negative effect with plant growth. My Gouramis spawned and the fry have grown quite well in water treated with Amquel. This isn't a substitute for regular water changes however :(
