My mom's 1 gal. has a bunch of black mold-type fungus growing on the rocks and plastic plant. It had never done it until just recently. She cleaned the whole tank, changed all the water, got new rocks, and it still came back. She's had the tank for about 6 years and this has just happened in the last 2 months. I was wondering if anybody knew what this is and how I can stop it
There is one angel fish in the tank. Thanks.

It's actually an algae. Like black velvet, right? Wish I could give a foolproof recipe... I keep removing affected leaves..

Apart from the algae problem....

You mean angel fish as in pterophyllum scalare? In a 1 gallon? I hope it is a baby and there are plans for a bigger tank!

would a small algae eater help the problem?

A one-gallon container is very difficult to keep in balance, even with plants. An algae-eating fish is not the answer to algae.

What? wetman doesn't have an answer? Great! Now I'll have to go look up irascible, find out what that means, and see if he's joking. Ooooh I hate fancy words!

I'd suggest a bigger tank and less food. I don't know how to rid the algae either.:(

dont know if this is the same stuff, but about 6 months or so ago, i had some black algea start growing on fake plants and a rock i had, I had bought a real plant and introduced snails to my tank and after awhile the black stuff disappeared, I dont know if the snails took care of it or it just went away:p , But i agree your mom should get a bigger tank, adding more fish or critters would just create a new problem
