I have a 24 gallon nano cube that is being upgraded slowly to a 90 gallon (I stress slowly due to $$ reasons lol). I have had my 24-gallon up for 9 months now and have read that carbon in the reef doesn’t to help, and that it actually filters out the additives that I am adding to the water for the reef.

My question is... Should I use the Carbon and change it out every month or no?

Thanks
Mike

There are varying opinions. It will help with water clarity and prevent chemical warfare between your corals, but I don't consider it an absolute necessity. As far as negative effects, again there is a lot of discussion, but not much hard data.

When I had a small tank, I used it because the tank was stuffed with both soft and stony corals and I was trying to keep them from offending each other. I am not currently using it on any of my tanks.
