If a clam is bleached out to a very pale color but otherwise is opening up fine can it recover its color if given enough light? Is there any other reason that a clam would bleach out besides lack of light??

If it has zooxanthellae left, tank conditions are good, whatever caused it to bleach is gone, then it can recover.

According to Knop, lack of light, inadequate light or lack of nitrate can all cause generalized bleaching.

It is probably a good idea to feed phytoplankton at this point to help it recover.

I believe in a reef aquaria, upon only on very rare cases you will find there is a lack of nitrate.

I would be leaning more to incorrect light, or bad parameters (most likely elevated levels)

A list of parameters and lighting conditions would help pin point what the problem is.
