I was just wondering if anyone has good luck with any particular CF bulb... I am setting up a new tank that came with CF and it currently has 2 bulbs, one labeled 12,000k and one labeled blue (both 65W). Its obviously a marine setup so I was thinking about swapping maybe atleast the blue bulb out for a more plant friendly bulb. But most of the CF bulbs just have a K rating, I havent yet come across any that say they are plant bulbs yet. So just shoot for a lower K one like 6500 or something? I know the K rating isnt critical for plants but I would assume one on the normal plant range would be better. I have also found there are different pin designs and such (mine are 4 inline pins, 21" I beleive), dang I am liking the t6/8/10/12 better all the time, both for availability and price. Oh well.

The Lady at my lfs told me that the colormax bulbs don't really do as much for the plants as the plain 6700k. She said they were pinkish and were mostly for looks. It actually was pretty believable as it cost them a sale of the colormax/6700k bulb. I ended up finding one at another store.

Coralife should have a 65w 6,700k and a 10,000k straight pin bulb which will both be fine for growing plants. The Coralife Colormax will grow plants just fine, if you like the pinkish light to enhance red fishes. I bet the 12,000k light will grow plants as well.
