Aquarium Pharm test kit- the first drop is supposed to turn vial water blue, then I count additional drops until the water goes yellow, right?
My water is yellow from the get go, which gives me a KH of only 1?
Is my pH in terrible danger of fluctuating?
I am scheduled to add fish + Bio-Spira today.

Using the above mentioned test kit I am also seeing
pH 7.4
GH 5
KH 1

I feel the need to mention that two days ago (before I drained about 25% to facilitate addional planting) the KH was 3 and the GH 6. I have driftwood in the water- no peat yet. Put in five potted (pre-ferted) plants 3/21/03. No fish, no bacterial seeding.

I am *very* surprised at these test results- I am in South Florida, living on coral rock, and just assumed I would have a hard water problem.
I am going to my water dept today for a local water analysis report.
In the meantime, any thoughts?

With such low KH, your water will be quite susceptible to pH swings. I'd consider adding a bit of crushed coral in a nylon stocking to your filter. A couple teaspoons to start with should be OK.
