how do you ship a small pleco?
i have a very young pleco that i bought a few months ago(i didnt know anything about fish then)he is in a ten gallon right now,he's about 2 inches.i was planning on putting him in the classified adds for free, only to a good home,i dont want to give him to my any of my lfs's because they are all bad places to be a fish.i need help with the shipping,i think you do overnight, but how do you "package" a fish?i want him to have a good home,he had a very bad start in life(he is one of my rescues)and he has got so much persoality.
thanks

half fill the bag with water. double bag with news paper in between each bag. put about 6-10 pages of newspaper around bag and put a heater pack underneath

I wouldnt use a heater pack unless it will be somewhere very cold. That little bag will get hot enough in the back of a delvery truck. its still summer and warm in most parts of the country.

Most fish will not survive deilvery trucks. There might be a chance with next day (air) morning delivery, if you can get that service. Shipping next day is expensive...

I ship fish every week so I might be able to help here.... I put about 3 to 1 air to water in the bag (Depending on fish size and bag size). I withhold food two days prior to shipping so the fish do not poo up their bag. I use styrofoam inserts in the box on all sides to keep the temp more moderated. I do use newspaper between each bag and I make sure they fit fairly snuggly to prevent flopping around.

I do not use any heat packs until the weather is really cool / cold...

I will go two day Priority or overnight. Do not use Dead Ex or DHL. They are really bad with on time delivery IMHO.

I hope this helps! :)

Oh to put air in the bag, I just use an airhose off one of my air pumps and I do double bag with rubber band ties....
