Is there a chance that a Metal Halide lamp could melt the center brace on my Oceanic Bow front?

Yup. If placed directly over it.

like CR said... without a doubt if its placed right over it. what size tank? its much better to have 2 MH's on either side of the tank. it will cost a bit more but it'll give more even lighting and you wont melt the brace.

It's a 46g.

I was looking at the Aquactinics MH/T5 combos. Upon reviewing I see the MH bulbs are sideset.

Something like the Outer Orbit wouldn't work because the MH is in the center of the fixture (not too mention they are too deep at 15").
