I recently just found a store that sells florite and onyx sand.. (long drive eh:() Since i have to make a decision between those two, which do you guys recomend?
For plant growing, go with the Flourite. For asthetics, go with the onyx sand, it looks better IMO.
What do the others think of a blend of the two?
BTW, Newt, your location spot is empty and the place you found the sand and Flourite isn't mentioned.

I could be wrong, but I thought Onyx and Flourite had the same benefits for great plant growth - without using laterite 'in clay form'. From SeaChem's website, it seems both have excellent nutrients for the live plants.
I prefer the look of Onyx in that it is a 'sand' rather than 'gravel'. I also think the bottom dwellers like loaches prefer a finer substrate.
Some may not like the gray color of the Onyx, as Flourite is reddish/brown. HTH
