I am just wondering why my amazon sword is growing healthy-ly. I have a 10 g(Specs below) with 15 watt 18,000 K lighting and 2 fertilizers, Plant Gro Iron and Flourish with other nutrients, and thats all. I thought amazons needed 2-3 wpg?? Am I just lucky or is it my tank??
PS I dont have Flourite.
How long have you had the plant? It may be using up stored nutrients yet. Of course it might just like your substrate. Anyways I keep some swords in a low light low tech aquarium and they do decently with a regular gravel substrate.

About 4 weeks, and the tanks 4-5 months old. June-November.
I have regular gavel has well, must be the bright purple light or the fertilizers, as my light hits high in the blue spectrum of light, and plants take in blue/yellow

I don't know, gst. But I've been able to keep Amazon swords in low light, too. They've been able to grow, and grow quite well, at about the same wattage per gallon you're describing. I've had a couple at 0.5 wpg for about a year. They've each got like 20 leaves in the bunch, and more are still coming in. Color is pretty good, too, not pale or anything. Maybe they were labeled wrong?
