Has that cluster of barnacles had any negative effect on the pH or hardness?

The columbian shark catfish will require brackish water.

Sorry, when I talk about the survivors, I'm referring to an earlier post about the tank turning bad (we had an amonia problem a month back, caused, we suspect, by a combination of overfeeding and an algae eater hiding inside the barnacle and dieing :( ).

The tank is a 25 gal., 30x16x12 inches, with an Aquaclear 200 back mounted filter.

The Ph of our local water is 7.6, and in the 3 months it's been there the barnacle doesn't seem to have had any effect on the Ph level (but we do partial 10 to 30% weekly).

We have a total of 4 tanks now, and 2 more planned. I'll post all the specs in the "Tank Specs" forum, for anyone interested.

I've read a few articles which say that fresh water is preferred when they are young, slowly converting to BW as the fish gets older. Some even recomend going to full marine in the later stages of their life.
