Im setting up a Discus tank and my current PH is 7.4, Kh 5, GH 7 I want to lower the Ph to 6.5
I dont want to use any chemycals so I was think in peat moss, so the question is: Is it neceseary to boilet before I use it and how much shoud I use to a 120gal tank?

For the last 3 weeks i put around 8 cups of peat and the Ph, GH and Kh dosent move.

The discus breeders I've spoken to use Seachem discus buffer. They say it is more reliable at maintaining a constant pH without fluctuations. Adding peat moss is just the same as adding chemicals anyway, the only difference is you have to wait for the chemicals to leech out and it is a hit and miss effort with amounts.

i have only just joined this forum today! I have 7 discus and i use a product called "Geo-Liquid". It is very popular here in australia but i dont know if its available where you are. It is an all natural product (no chemicals - you can actually drink it yourself if you want!) It comes in different mixes for different fish. There is one for Discus, one for tropicals, one for goldfish, one for marine fish and one for plants. Since i have started using it.(about 12 months now) i have never had any water problems and my ph is always around 6.5. It also makes your water cystal clear. You will notice it does cloud the water if your water is not spot on but clears the water within a few hours. It is made by a company called "Flex" (I think its a Japanese company). I had to scan the brochure for someone to email to them so if you are interested in reading it i can email it to you. Its a PDF file so if you dont Adobe Acrobat reader you will need to download that first. Since using it i have NEVER added one chemical based product to mt tank.

To answer your question directly, Fluval makes a peat granule for fish tanks that you can put in nylon bags and add to your filter or tank, with no boiling or fuss. It works great!

I agree with bobbdd statement. That's also what I'm using. :)
