Water flow rate

Hello All,
I have a 46 bow FOWLR, a few mushrooms that were tag alongs on the rock. I have the rock positioned about 3/4 of the way back to allow a "spinning" type water flow, kinda like a oblong whirlpool. Should I move the rocks against the back of the tank or should i leave it the way it is, and what type of flow rate should i have? I have a H.O.T canister, but it doesnt move water real well, that goes L to R towards the front and a Penguin 1140 powerhead pointed down the back from R to L.
Any Ideas would be great.

I'd leave the rock where it is an unobstructed water flow is very imortant to your tanks contiuned health. Dead spots in your circulation will trigger noxious algae blooms etc. If you want a reef go for at least 15x per hour if it's fish only ,"the shrooms won't care either" you could get away with 9x or 10x per hour. If you have enough live rock 1 to 1.5 lbs per hour I'd make sure that the cannister was being ran without any media, it'll just cause you nitrate problems down the road.

Here is my 46 gallon Bowfront, I just took out my sand and went barebottom 8 days ago. I am using a SEIO 620, SEIO 820, and a Maxi-Jet 1200 with a hydor-flo output. I have around 40X per hour flow to give you an idea of what it takes to reach that much. I am very pleased with this setup and beats what I had (2 maxijet 1200's). Good Luck...
