I just got a 100 gallon tank. I previously had a 6" texas,6"RD, 4"JD,4" convict, and a 7" pleco in a 55 gall. I put them all in the 100 gallon thinking that it may curb the RDs aggresion. Nope, He had the others all up in 1 corner while he had the whole tank. Anyway, hes in the 55 until tomorrow when Ill give him back to the fish store. Anyway, any suggestions on about how many more fish can be added to the 100 gal and if any what type do you suggest? It is 100 gallon at 6 foot long by 18" wide and 18" tall. Thanks in advance

Kinda depends on what you want to add... More cichlids? Plecos? Synodontis?

Nevermind, just did a seach on synodontis. Yea more cichlids.
Well to subside the RD's Aggression a bit (Maybe) you could probably add another Convict... How long have you been keeping Cichlids/had tanks.

Ive been keeping cichlids for about a year and a half. Thats the only experience I have at all. I gave the RD back to the LFS. How would adding another convict help curb his aggression?

A denser stocking will help to decrease aggression. Although I wouldn't expect 1 Convict to help anything. Adding 6-7 more Convicts may have helped.
I would add 1 more large, but only moderately aggressive, cichlid.
I'd go with one of these
Nourissati

Microphthalmus

Pearsei

Zonata

Synspila

Some of these may be difficult to find unless your willing to have them shipped to you. But if you want a nice fish bad enough.......
Good luck

So you think only 1 more? Thanks for your suggestions, I really liked the Pearsei and my wife really likes the Zonata. What are the "nicknames" (non scientific) names of those fish. Is the Synspila a "flowerhorn"? Kinda looks like the ones Ive seen. Thanks again for the help.

I don't think any of those really have common names aside from the Synspila which is the Red Head Cichlid. And its not a hybrid, its a pure species.
You can expect a male of nearly all of those species to reach 14". Which is a really big fish considering how massive they are. Even though I wouldn't add any more large cichlids, you should still be able to fit in some nice Catfish, Characins, Barbs, etc.
If you decide to get the Zonata, I may be able to help you. I have several for sale. Mine look like this though

Thanks you again. If we decide on one Ill check with you first.
This will probaly be stupid but Ive pretty much got all my info from a mom and pop LFS. I was told that I couldnt keep anything other than the same size cichlids and plecos together... But now you mention fish like barbs charicins. The cichlids I have now wont just eat them? If no please list a few more fish that I may be able to keep also. That would open up all sorts of options. I am sorry for my ignorance and I guess I should have looked into it more than just there word. I really appreciate your help.

They will eat very small fish, but there are many nice 4-6" Characins and Barbs I was thinking about. I'll reply again with some more specific information on the ones that might be suitable for your tank.
By the way, don't worry, the only stupid question is one not asked.

the red heads are dope looking my friends used to have 1 but it died cause his brother took care of it over the summer 1 time and left the window open and the water exaporated to a low red head death. :( they are nice fish tho kinda aggressive but maybe that was jsut his, he killed everything in my friends 75g until it was the only inhabitant.

From personal experience the only fish I can recommend are
Exodon paradoxus - Buck Tooth Tetra - 4"
Metynnis argenteus - Silver Dollar - 4"
Leporinus fasciatus - Black Banded Leporinus - 8 to 10"
Trichogaster pectoralis - Snake Skin Goramy - 8"
Trichogaster trichopterus - Three Spot Goramy/Blue Goramy - 4"
Trichogaster leeri - Pearl Goramy - 4"
Macropodus opercularis - Paradise Fish - 4"
T-Barb (I don't know the Latin name)
Synodontis eupterus - Feather Fin Catfish - 8"
Synodontis angelicus - Angelicus Cat - 8"
Hoplosternum thoracatum - Hoplo Cat - 7 to 8"
I'm sure others have other recommendations though.
Red Heads (Synspila) are typically peaceful for a cichlid. I wouldn't worry about it being to aggressive.

FYI, the T-barb (aka Spanner Barb) has a Latin name of Barbus lateristriga, and the Hoplo is now Megalechis thoracata.
