They like having cover in general, so plants would be good. They also keep nitrate lower, which is very good with rams.
Come to think of it, I can't imagine keeping rams in an unplanted tank.
Rams and plants mix well. You should have no trouble.

rams would certainly appreciate plant cover, and they will look stunning against it. they make a great community fish.

Yea, the rams like to hide in the leaves. Blue rams are very nice IMO.

I have a pair of Ramirezi in my tank, along with Neons, Rasboras and Ancistrus. They are very attractive and posess a cute and funny personality (like all cichlids). The lower/mid level plants are their favourite. They especially like going through the leaves of nana and close to the ground.
I have pair each of Blue and Gold Rams in two planted tanks, they love it. The only problem I've had with them bothering the plants was one random plant that was included with an order of plants, similar to a Foxtail, they ate all of the needles on all 4 stems. They don't bother the Anacharis, Java Fern, Foxtail, Cabomba, Crypts, Rotala or Mayaca.
