Hi everyone.

I have a 30g (UK) tank (six months old). My stock is 2 small tank bred clowns, a strawberry pseudochromis, a skunk cleaner shrimp, a fire shrimp and several snails and red legged hermits.

I added a purple firefish about a month ago but the mean pseudo saw him off after I thought they had reached a truce!

I am wondering what (if any) other small fish I can add which will hold its own against the pseudo. My current inhabitants get on together fine so I don't want to rock the boat, but a new addition would be nice if possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to Aquaria Central! You will find wealths of info here! Not sure what the conversion to US gallons is, but I would say you could try a Blenny or something of the equivalent. Something like a Bicolor or Midas or something not the same color/body composition of the Pseudo. You could also maybe try a small wrasse if you can quarentine the pseudo for awhile and let the wrasse get established then re-add the pseudo. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck and welcome to Aquaria Central!

Thanks. I've done a bit of research and a Midas Blenny sounds like a good option. All I have to do is find an LFS with one in stock. Not easy in England where marine fish stores are few and far between.

Ditto on the blenny. I have a bicolor, and he has quite a personality. Also mine can be a little feisty when he needs to be, so that may be enough to put your pseudochromis in his place.

Fairy wrasses are great small fish too. I never used to like wrasses and would pass by them at the LFS, until I got one. I won a Lubbock's wrasse in a drawing at a swap and he's awesome. I have a new appreciation for wrasses. They are very active swimmers, are very peaceful, and have great color.

Thanks for your suggestions. The wrasses are very pretty and your Lubbock's looks a cool fish. Will they stand up to my meanie though? I think I may try one more fish (still considering and open to any more suggestions) and if the little purple monster is mean, it may have to go to a new home - down the loo sounds good (only kidding!). It's such a pretty colour and gets on fine with the clowns. Decisions, decisions.

Don't add anything that the psuedo chromis could confuse for another of it's own kind. Maybe something like a pajama cardinal or a cherub angel,"I'm not sure how big a uk gallon is either."

Bi colours can eat sps, and keep that in mind if your are keeping sps or you may in the future.

Many gobies, cardinials, fairy wrasse would be ok to name a few

Thanks for everyone's interest. I have decided to wait until I return from my trip to Florida at the end of the month before deciding. I am giving my neighbour a quick course on marine fishkeeping so hope my tank will still be alive and kicking when I return. :dive2:

Changing topics slightly, I have just been given a condy (yes I know!) and it seems to be doing OK. My cleaner shrimp has decided to use it almost as a host. It is always near it, hovers over it and even steals its food if it can. I thought anenomes stung everything except clowns. Anyone know if this is normal behaviour for a cleaner?
