Hey guys

I know Acrylic is much more expensive, but which do you think is better quality?

I am only going to be getting a 25/30 g (so not a huge tank) but I am wondering if I should get Acrylic due to the lightness(but hate how easy it scratches) or glass for the cheapness!!

I think the All-glass is $48 and the SeaClear Acrylic Tank is $120 for the 25g.

It's really a matter of preference. I myself prefer to have glass versus acrylic. Glass is still pretty strong and for a tank that is only going to be 30g tops glass is all you will need. I hate how easy acrylic scratches.

Just my 2 cents for ya.

Note: I have moved this to the Freshwater Products & DIY area

Aye in the 25-30g range go with glass. The price difference is just to great really and it's not like a 30g glass aquarium is a back breaker.

The only time the weight will matter is when you're moving it. Other than that it's a non issue.

Go with glass:)

5 and under: acrylic. 5 and up: glass.

My big tank is glass. Heavy, but only had to move it once, only took two people for initial positioning, just little ol' me to fine tune the stand and tank against the wall and china hutch.

4 kids with various toys and such, glass was the obvious choice for me. As Rallysman said, weight is a non-issue after the tank is in place.

v/r, N-A

Five grand kids, all under 6. Any room that they have access to has acrylic tanks. Yep, they may get scratched, but they won't break when the tonka truck misses little Michael.

I like glass on anything under 55 gallons.

I like acrylic on 55 and above or if for display only.

I have a 265 glass and a 300 acrylic. I wish both were glass.
The 300 bows when it's full, which distorts the view, plus it scratches too easily.
It was easy to move though lol.....

I like the look of the corners on acrylic tanks better than the glass ones.

I have had a kid break a 10gal glass tank with a football. (Big Mess)

I think I would be worried about a big expensive acrylic tank getting scrathes, but have nothing against the cheap tiny ones.

Most of my tanks are glass. You have to scrub less to get the algae off the acrylic.
