Well, Boogie was right. My little black ray shrimp goby jumped out. I suspect he did it even before I wrote the post. He was eating so well too! Dammit...anyways, I picked up a fire goby, and aware of their jumping ability before and now really aware of it, I strategically placed algae scrubbers, cd jewel cases, and plastic cups along the back so that the only way he, or any future inhabitants can make it out, so to jump up the skimmer outflow like a spawning salmon or over the powerhead. However, I'm not taking any chances. I picked up the only two kinds of mesh I could find. One is a metal mesh, which I'm kinda worried about. The other is a fiberglass mesh, which I'm also worried about. I didn't want anything that's flammable, since the only way I can figure I can secure it on the tank is by clamping it on one of the striplights. Any thoughts here?
'Nother question- Now that I'm down to one goby, I was thinking about replacing the other one. He was really cool. Otherwise I was thinking of either a lawnmower or yellow watchman. I have one rock, about the size of two softballs that is covered in hair algae. I don't know if I want a lawnmower since the hermit crabs seem to love the algae. I could always throw in algae wafers I suppose. Any thoughts here also? Thanks alot everyone.

Well, a lawnmower is a blenny, and they tend to get a little on the bigger & more aggressive side. I might be inclined to lean towards another goby instead. A watchman would be fine, as would any other shrimp gobies if you want to try them again.

I would definitely go for the fiberglass mesh over the metal...that will rust over time due to salt creep & evaporation. Simple plastic mesh or eggcrate should work as well.

I recommend the egg crate--it's easy to cut to size, cheap, and easily attached with zip strips. Also won't cause problems with SW and heat. If it's in an area that doesn't have high heat, nylon will work well.

Now when you say eggcrate, do you mean like the recycled cardboard eggcrate? Wouldn't that get soggy might darned quick? I was just going to set it on there. In order to lift up my hood, I have to play around with the striplights and I basically have to pull the hood forward. If I don't then water evaporates into one of the lights and I don't want to short it out. Thanks guys.

LOL--no, eggcrate is actually the name of a product. You've probably seen it at school--it's the used in suspended lights. Here's more--it has many uses in an aquarium!

Don't feel bad--I first thought of the eggcrate bed tops they sell. :)
