Hi guys,

I will have a 29 gal tank with a 4-5in dsb. I was wondering what is the best way to set up live rock in this set up.

Is it safe to rest the rock against the glass? or should I jsut keep all the rock as close to the middle as i can? I dont want the tank to break and flood my room. I am asking because I would rather have most of the rock towards the back of the tank.

Also is 4" dsb deep enough. I will have snails, a serpent star, and a tiger cucumber.

Is it wise to have a gobi that will also sift? I read for dsb you dont want too much things that will dig the sand since they will eat the bacteria and other creatures in the sand bed.

Well, first make sure that you have your l.r. resting on the glass not the sand that way if you do get a digger you won't have to worry about a flood. You don't want to put it right up against the glass as that will limit your water flow and possibly cause some major cyano issues.

The cuc will clean your sand for you nicely but, it will make a dent in some of your infaunal critters. The cuc is slow though and a lot of them will be able to relocate before they get munched. It mostly eats detritus.

29g is a relatively small sw tank. 4-5" DSB is pretty big, most people with tanks that size usually run 1-2". It has been shown that such a DSB in a small tank can cause problems in the long run.

Things that sift your sand are good. They "aerate" it and it promotes good bacteria growth.

As for your rocks, you can do what you like. I always suggest keeping them a little ways from the glass so that you get better circulation and it's easier to clean.
