What are people's thoughts about using resin or hyper-tufa for an aquascape? I have got a 75G that I want to create a centerpiece for and am on the fence as to what to use. Seems like resin would be easier to work with but the tufa would look better. . .

The tank is going to house a community of Rift Lake Cichlids so the pH issue is not an issue, I believe. . .

FYI - Hyper-tufa is a combonation of concrete, sand, perlite, and peat, that ends up looking like regular tufa. Gardeners make planters and such out of it. . .

Further info can be found here. . .

The hypertufa sounds really neat. I bet you can get some great shapes out if it. Go for it. Use the hypertufa.

You can use sand as a mold to get interesting rock shapes. Carve out a recess in the sand and use it as a mold. You can make caves, holes anything. Its an amazing mold. If you want more info on using sand as a mold, search for DIY live rock in a saltwater forum.

hope this helps
