I'm in the process of putting together a 75 gallon community tank. I added 4 platies and the other day I added 2 black mollies. The platies seem to be doing fine, however the mollies are vey shy. They hide in the top back corners and stay along the top back whenever they do move, if they move.

I was wondering what may be wrong with them? I cycled the tank by moving half my filter media from my Oscar 75 gallon tank to the new tank. I added the platies shortly after moving the media. So far I'm getting now reading for amonia.

Is this expected of mollies or could there be something else wrong. The mollies are about 1.5 inches and the platies are about .75 inches.

Well Black mollies do prefer a bit of salt in their water, but can adapt to fresh. Are they males or females? Males can tend to fight and get stressed amongst ach other. it could be that they are just stressed because of the move?

don't worry about adding salt ... You do not need it. Mollies are bred in freshwater and are fw fish o.o

I didn't say that they HAD to add salt, and no you don't NEED it but Black mollies are naturally slightly brackish, but as I have said they will be fine in freshwater.

They could be stressed out but should be calmed down in a day or so. Do you have any hiding spots for them ? Some are just shy by nature and need to hide a lot. Caves or thick foliage would help. If they're heavily pregnant, they may like to hang out near the heater.

I think I have a lot of hiding spots for them. I'll try to create more for them as I want the babies they have in the future to have enough hiding places as well.
