I am following Max's advice and removing my crushed coral, All that is in the tank is a yellow tang and 4 blue legged hermit crabs. I'm gonna take out the crushed coral and leave it bare bottom until I work up enough money to buy the sand. I was thinking about getting a piece of live rock for the crabs to eat off of because they will not be able to scavenge because the crushed coral is where there food source was. Is it a good idea to get a piece of live rock for the crabs to eat off of? And when I go to take out the crushed coral and water I was thinking of sucking the junk out of the crushed coral in the process and letting it settle to the bottom of the bucket that I will be holding the water in. Then remove the crushed coral and no junk will get stirred up when I take it out. Then by being careful to just put the water back in and none of the junk, is this a good idea?

Hello Y.T.
I wouldn't reuse the water if I hand any other options at all. I'd add the liver rock and some plain old white arogonite play sand and let it turn into live sand it'll save you some $. I'd get as much curred live rock as I could afford it's better for the long term health of your tank and your fish. It can be a bit expensive so if you can't afford it get some plain old dry coral rocks or calcium carbonate based rocks and just use that along with a little live rock.
