OK, if you are talking about an Anubias, there really isn't a whole lot to "planting it". Actually, it may be better to just attach it to some driftwood or rocks in your tank. Simply tie it on with some dark cotton thread. It will eventually attach itslef before the thread detiorates.
You can "plant" it in the substrate as well - but if your fish are like mine, they will uproot it. To plant in the substrate, you want to bury the roots - BUT NOT the rhizome. Just push it in with your fingers then pull it out so the rhizome is above the substrate

You should remove the plant from the rockwool pot that it was sold in. So cut up that black "pot" and rip away the rockwool, then plant your plant or tie it to a piece of wood or rock. The important thing is that the rockwool in the black pot you purchased the plant in shouldn't stay in the tank.
IMHO & IME Anubias nana does much better and grows much faster (still slowly) with the roots (but not the rhizome) planted in the substrate. It does better still in a rich or supplemented substrate.

Well, your Anubias will grow fine either way - attached to a rock or in the substrate - but I do agree with RTR that you may get better growth in the substrate. It really just depends on your personal preference in setting up your tank - either way will work
