Hey Y'all,
quick question....
My roommate is throwing a big Halloween party. There's going to be very loud music and lots of people dancing. I'm worried about my fish (I have 5 serpae tetras, 3 diamond tetras, 6 harlequin rasboras, and 1 german blue ram). Do you think that the stress from the loud music and pounding floors will kill them? Is there anything I can do to make this a little easier on my fish?
Thanks for any ideas/suggestions.

Just don't let people jump up and down enough to slosh the fishes on the floor--and make sure no drunk people pour stuff in the tank or take the fish out. It isn't usually the noise that hurts the fish when parties happen, it is the people.

The floors are wood.
I won't be there- I'm going to NY for the weekend, so I won't have control over the noise level or the jumping (which I'm sure there will be a lot of- the crowd that will be here are all professional hip-hop dancers- and the music is going to be spun by a professional club-DJ.)
The tank will be physically partitioned off with a black curtain (so nobody will be pouring anything in).

I'd just keep the lights off and hope no one violates the black curtain. Also make sure the tank is covered in case any fish get freaked enough to make a jump for it.

If possible, maybe put a layer of foam under the tank to absorb the vibrations. Tape your lid shut and put a note on there saying, "Alcohol kills fish. Do not drink and share with fish."

How do I get foam under my tank?
I have a 30 gallon that sits on an oak stand. Do I empty out some of the water? how does that work?

How do I get foam under my tank?
Do I empty out some of the water? how does that work?Transfer most water into a container, like rubbermaid. Put fish in container Take off filter, rest of water or anything else on/in the tank if you still can't lift it. Make sure filter media is kept wet the whole time. Transfer everything back into the tank once foam is in place. It's a lot of work but it might help. You may want to keep the foam in place for a while if there are more parties in the near future.
id probably have to move my whole tank if i had a party.
but i have a kooky fish that trys to jump ship everytime anyone other than me walks past.
if you have well adjusted fish (and lots of hiding spots for them in the tank) you will probably be fine with the lights off and a blanket thrown over
and because i just remembered. my bf just played at a venue that had a huge koi tank inside. and all the fish had been there for several years. so i guess fish can handle loud music. which i did not know myself....
If you ever move the foam is a great idea. keep it in mind when you reset your tank up. It works great if you ever build a home made stand. You can for now keep your light off and maybe cover the tank so all the movment doesnt scare the fish.

i have had lots of parties with my 55 gallon tank nearby people (and awesome beer pong games) and loud music. i know they don't like this and I was a little worried, they always did absolutely fine. never had no dead fishes from the beats! They love beer pong too!
