Hello new to the forum, hope to be a regular user.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this fish is?

http://www.littleronin.com/goby.JPG

I was told when I bought it that it was a Knight Goby, but everything I read about Knight Gobies say that they grow to be about 3 inches. Well this guy was about 3 inches when I purchased him, now he is about 7 inches (he is bigger than my 6 inches Clown Knife). If anyone has any information, I would be very greatful.

welcome littleronin to AC

unfortunately, you know its not a Knight Goby now, because it sure as heck ain't! no idea what that is, maybe someone here can ID it for you. all i can say is it looks great, hopefully it won't grow into a monster and eat your fish.

next time, be sure of what you bought!

Thanks, it seems to be a very placid fish, never bugging anyone in the tank.

I rescued it from the tank in the pet store as it was kept with about 30 Bala Sharks where it seemed to be scared and hid in the corner. He show all the personality traits of a Knight Goby (hiding most of the day, coming out at night, and dwelling on the bottom of the tank), but he is just too big. He also comes up and eats from your hand.

That is an interesting fish! I wish I could ID it for you, but I've never seen any thing like it. Hopefully someone will know what s/he is!

yup, it's a sleeper goby AKA gudgeon. I don't know what kind, but i'd find out if I were you. those things can top 2' with some species, but others stay around 7-8".

Thank you, I think I found em.

Southern Purple Spotted Gudgeon

Now the question is.... Is it endangered or what is going on with it? Most of what I see about it is that it is low population.
nope. thats not your fish. I can tell by the look of the markings. keep looking.
