View Full Version : Puffs and cons
I want to keep some figure 8 puffers together with a pair of convicts. I figure that the convicts will be able to take care of themselfs against the puffers agression. Is this possible? I have a 46 gallon tank.

no, I don't think that's a good idea. yea the cons may be able to "take care of themselfs" against the puffers, but that is actually a moot point. your fish would probably constantly be stressed. add to that the fact that figure 8's do best in light brackish at least, where as cons should be kept in freshwater. also, if the cons mate, they will claim 90% of the tank leaving the puffers to either become for aggressive or keeping them stuck in a corner.

speaking from experience, NOTHING should be kept with a pair of convicts. Especially a figure 8, it'll be like watching operation "shock and awe" in your tank.

Not to mention that, if the cons rip into the puffers, they will die, too...tetraodotoxin is harmful to other fish and even to humans, so you would have to be extra-careful in doing water changes after the all-too-imminent deaths of your puffers.
