OK...those of you who might remember my experiment with those spiral flourescents...I ditched the idea. But here's my new DIY fixture with a 2x55W CF kit from ahsupply
Not the best pictures...but they'll have to do for now.

You have 110 watts of light for a 28 gallon tank?!?
I hope you have pressurized CO2...
Nice lookin' set of lights you put together there... nice job!

Do CF give off much heat? The vents in the top are adequate to keep them cool?

I have good DIY CO2 right now...but I'm in the process of ordering my pressurized equipment.
beviking - For the 3-4 hours I had them running yesterday, they didn't seem to get that hot. There are also 1" vents on the sides in addition to the 2" vents on the top.

Actually have to disagree - CFs can throw out lots of heat - you need to adequately ventilate them to dissapate the heat.
Sitting on my glass hood, even with vents in my fixture, my 2x55 AF Supply retrofit cracked the glass in my hood from the heat.
Even sitting raised 3/8" above the hood, the CFs are hot enough to raise the water temp 2 degrees when on.
Be sure to adequately ventilate any CFs you use

Currently there are two 55w 6700k bulbs laying across my 10g, only DIY CO2 and everything is great. What's the reason behind why you hope pressurized CO2 available?

I absolutely agree to have adequate ventilation. Guess I assumed most all light 'hoods' have vents on them... I can bare handed pick up my lights with no problem. Meaning I don't see CF's being "heat prone". Now Metal Halides, there's some heat! Here's the CF's I'm using:
