I seemed to have lost a guppy last night. He was there last night when I went to bed and today I can not find him anywhere. He was hanging around the bottom of the tank yesterday acting semi-strange, so I did a water change and he was more active. I am doing a fishy cycle and my Nitrites have been spiking for over a month now.
I am guessing that the guppy died in the night and then was eaten... I only have 2 danios in the tank now. Would they eat a dead guppy?
Thanks :(

I dont think danios would eat a dead guppy, however guppys deterioate very quickly.

The fish fairy came. Its the only explanation.
Seriously though, he may have been eaten, or he may have jumped out, who knows?
Flag, there is no way it would have rotted that fast.
i have lost many of guppy to the aquarium abyss :) in my case there were fish that could eat him but i dont think danios can, best check around the tank and very carefully in any possible hiding spots, ornaments, plants ect. my sis was convinced she had lost a guppy and we looked real carefully two days later and he was wedged in her fake plants roots where you put gravel so it sinks. weird.
i wouldnt think the worse, just a week ago i thought i lost a rummynose tetra and this is not the first time ive lost a fish.
could not find that darn thing anywhere!!! i thought it jumped out my open top tank.
and last night at feeding time. there it was.
do some water changes, i think when fishy's start feeling a little ill they hide from predators (this is totally an opinion btw i know i know correct me if im wrong)
and water changes will either help you to A) find the body or B) help an ailing fish.

exact same thing happened to me a couple days ago. I raised him from his mother since she died soon after dropping. He was never extremely healthy looking; staying mostly at the bottom of the tank. It's been a week now, so I think he's gone. It's good though, since now I can get rid of two females since the tank is very OS.

Do a water change, move things around, stir the water around a little. Should be able to find your guppy. There's still a chance it's alive in a secret place in an ornament - I have a platy that's very good at finding impossible hidey holes. Danios don't feed low so not likely that they ate it. Check your filter too if you have big holes at the intake.

I lost a guppy once, checked under driftwood plants etc.
Then 2 weeks later I was trimming my wisteria and the thing came outa nowhere, his fins were in bad shape but he was happy to be free. I think he got stuck in my live plants or something.

In my experience guppys take about 10 hours to rot.

well mines gone then.
My friends missed their male black guppy one day. Two days later, they noticed a skeleton in a corner. There were only guppies and ramshorn snails in that tank.

small fish rot quickly, especially in heated water. Once dead they tend to float and then top feeders like danios will eat them. Also they weigh hardly nothing and are easily sucked into the filter after dying. Also if they do jump out of the tank they can flop around and sometimes die feet away from the tank... could be under your couch
