Heater Location in setup with sump & Fuge?

I was wonderign what your theories and/or thoughts are on location for your heater in a tank with sump/fuge setup.

I think that a lot of people liek to place their equipment in the sumps because it keeps things out of the way and opens more room in the main tank for corals, fish and viewing pleasure.

However I was thinking if you were to place your heater in the sump you are then at risk of havign a tank get too cold if there was ever a loss of flow between the sump and the main tank. For example if oyu had a power outage for 10mins. when the power turned back on you run the risk of maybe not having your pump come back on or the overflow not working properly (Who knows). Then your main tank is isolated and has no heat souce.

What do you guys think?

Wherever you want. If you have enough flow in your system like you should it really does not matter decause the water is moveing to fast for there to be any cold spots.

I don't understand your thinking. x number of gallons of water and x amount of disipateing features (glass, plumbing, etc) is going to cool at the same rate no matter where you put the heater. You will still loose the same amount of heat because the heat disipateing properties of the tank are the same.

lol, my heater never comes on while the lights are on anyway. It doesn't matter where you put it all the same unless you have some serious water flow issues.
