to make my brackish tank, i make 1 litre of seawater to around 3 gallons of dechlorinated tapwater.

to make the seawater, i add 9 teaspoon of red sea marine salt to 1 litre of tapwater, and left to aerate for 1 day. but i found that there'll be some undissolved salt remaining, most of which is dark gray/black. what does this mean? btw, i dissolve the salt in a plastic container.

thanks.

that there is some mineral in your salt that isnt aqueous. something isnt dissolving in the water. you can try running little carbon possibly in there to remove some. or just let it settle for a little while before you add it to your tank, and whipe it out at the bottom once you add all the water
how much is it really?

not a lot. less than 1/4 teaspoon. but i dissolved 13 teaspoons of salt in 1 litre of water and stirred it for a few minutes, most of the salt dissolved, and the little salt that remains is white, not dark gray.

get a plastic container and a power head or other water mover. Leave until salt is completely disolved. Any inert materials then can be filtered out through cheese cloth or filter floss.
