Ok lol i'm starting to get upset with my java moss. I read everywhere how easy java moss is to grow.. tropica says it will grow in any tank conditions and it just wont grow for me. I have a bit of a low light setup although all my other plants are thriving. I have 1 watt /gallon. (although i do wannna upgrade something fierce...)

Water params ph 7.0 amm 0 nitrates 0 nitrite 10.
gh is high but according to my reading thats not an issue for java moss.. although it could be untrue. I've had the moss for... a month and a bit and its not realy rooted to any driftwood although it is lush and green...

p.s. i'm trying to get the gh under control.

Any tips would be appreciated

So it is growing, just not attaching? Mine took a long time to attach--I had it tied down for several months, and so I never had to see if it was attached until I moved the wood to another tank. I wouldn't worry if it isn't sticking to the wood if it is green and growing.

Thanks for the quick response.. its lush and green but its not any bigger then when i bought it... perhaps a little smaller but some loss is to be expected right.. well its good to know that it takes a while.. i thought it would be pretty quick

Thanks

Did you spread it out really thin? It will attach quicker and grow thicker if you spread it out extremely thin and tie it down.

WOW your nitrite and ammonia need to be worked on........

How long you had your tank set up for. I would worrie about them levels your I have never had nitrite at 10 in my life other then in a cycle. DO A WATER CHANGE ASAP.

I didn't even see that, I was looking at the moss issue. But yeah, do water changes if you are showing detectable nitrites or ammonia.

He didn't list ammonia as being bad?

But yeah, moss can be a real slwo grower until it starts to take hold and then it can take off. Watch out in fact as java moss gets thick and can really trap particles and debris. This can lead to outbreaks of green water. So vacuum your java moss once it starts to grow.

Your right I miss looked but nitrite is awfull high.
