I have a AquaClear p.Skimmer What I need to know is the colection bowl at the top has a little open valve on the side of it , the water that is bubbling up to the bowl and then it is running out that valve back into my sump , is this what it is supposed to do , or should it be dirrected somewhere else , I thought it was only supposed to collect foam deposits ?:confused:
 
The open valve is there to drain the skimmate down to a larger container. Many people modify thier skimmers this way so they can leave the collection cup in place and drain the skimmate into a gallon size milk jug, for example. You could either block off the valve, or add a piece of tubing and run the tubing into a larger collection bucket next to the sump.
