Everything was so good in my 46 salt water tank. I had crushed coral in the bottom and I was going to change to sand. No magor problem, I was going to change to sand very slow. But I just found out the cow fish in my tank has ICK. I new after it was to late it was a mistake to put a cow fish in there anyway. I took all the carbon out of the filters and began treatment. I will probally loose my clown my two star fish clean & up crew also 2 damsels. I am going to try to save my set up but I am worried I am going to have to start over.

Well, I'd worry about the stars if there is any copper in the meds it will nuke your clean up crew. I wouldn't worry about the clowns or the damsels as they are very hardy fish. I'd also strongly urge you to read the hospital tank thread in the articles section. Keep us posted and we'll do everything we can to help.
cheers

The ICK meds dont have copper. I know now about the hostital tank. Next time I will hospital a fish for a few weeks before I put a new fish in a. Healthy tank.

cool, it will save you a lot of money. Let us know how it goes man.

Max, now that I am dealing with ICK too. Do you think after day 3 I should get rid od all the crushed coral and replace with sand. The medication says to treat tank with it for 3 days. Since I have all the decor out of tank it would be easy and the tank now should of cycled.

If the fish are over the ich I'd start the removal process. If they aren't I wouldn't stress them more. I would remove the crushed coral all at once and fill several cloth bags or pillow cases with about 1/4 of the material. Remove one bag per week until they are all gone . I'd also use this opportunity to set up a sand bed. Make sure that all of your live rock is setting on glass so that you don't have any stability issues.
