Durability of particle board tank stands

Earlier this year I bought a used 45gal tank which came with a particle board tank stand (also used).

My initial intentions were to use it to house a single green spotted puffer or use it as grow out tank for some african cichlid fry (in both scenarios the interior of the tank would have been pretty much bare, i.e., little or no rocks and maybe 1" of sand depth).

In the end, I set it up as my first saltwater set up. Now, after loading the tank with sand (2.5"-3" depth), live rock (65lbs+), corals, a few fish, and acquiring equipment associated with marine tanks (skimmer, refractometer, pc lights, etc), I'm starting to wonder about the longevity and durability of this used particle board tank stand due to the investment I put into this tank.

I guess my questions are: are particle board stands built to last? Has anyone ever had one fail on them and if they do fail are there any warnings signs?

Or are they just as good as the wooden or metal stands and I'm worrying a whole lot about nothing?

wouldnt Risk it.

The weight appears to be distributed evenly.

The thickness of the boards is about a half inch thick.

No bowing is evident, but I'm noticing some slight swelling here and there.

For peace of mind I think I'll get a new oak stand (hate to break down the tank, though).

It'll probably hold. But if you questioned it enough to post here, you'll never be comfortable with it.

Get a new stand to put your mind at ease. You don't want to tear it down and start over unless you absolutely have to.
