I have an Eheim 2026 canister filter on my newly set up 75 gallon and it came with these thin carbon pads to put in the top of the filter. I remember reading about what carbon does in the filtering process and cannot find or remember the specifics.
I have not been using the carbon yet. Can someone remind me why I should use them or when?

You are going to get two variety of answers. Some people will say always use carbon and others will say you only need it to remove meds. This is always a big debate.:D
I myself only use carbon to remove meds after treating a tank. I used to use it all the time. After reading alot of the threads about it, I decided that I didn't need to use carbon. That was almost a year ago with no problems.
I would suggest doing a search on this topic. There is a lot of threads on this.
