How long did your diatom blooms last

I am having a massive diatom outbreak. I was just wondering how long everyone has seen these last and how bad it got. Mine is basically covering everything including the rocks. The little coraline I had started is now covered. It looks awful--when can I expect improvements? It can't get much worse.

Calcium-440<--I use Seachem Reef Complete. Anyone had or heard of silicate problems with this?

Maybe this should be in the Newbie forum?---can anyone spit some knowledge on this? This outbreak is going on 3 weeks.
 
Longest time 5 weeks in a tank that I used just plain old silica sand. Usually it will only last for 2 or 3 weeks just until the soluble silica is used up. Most algae eaters really enjoy diatoms if your tank is cycles you might consider adding some critters.
