So I stopped at my LFS a few weeks ago just to see what was new when I saw a clump of plants that looked like dwarf sag or some sort of pygmy chain sword. I asked the salesperson what they were and he had no idea. I asked how much he wanted for them and he said, "How about $.99?" I said sure! I took them home and found each bunch to have ~50 plants in each bunch! (I bought 5 bunches.) I planted them, posted them on the forum, and found out that they were indeed dwarf sag! So I got 5 big clumps of dwarf sag for $1 a piece and they are doing wonderfully!

So I stopped by again today and found bulbs for sale with leaves sprouting out of it that looked EXACTLY like red tiger lotus! I asked the guy what they were. No idea, but willing to sell them to me for....$.99 a bulb! So of course, I had to swoop on that deal. I bought two just so that I could take them home and verify by picture first. I looked up some pics and sure enough -- I've got two big bulbs of red tiger lotus for $1 a bulb! I love it!

Am I lucky or what?! :D

You Dog you!!!! :) I've been looking all over for decently priced Tiger Lotus. The most obvious question is where is this LFS that we all wish we lived next to? You've got to send me some bulbs. I can't believe your luck. Next you'll be telling me he sold you some Alternanthera cheap too. I'm soooooo jealous.
Good luck with the new plants.....

Don't hate me!

Okay DjLen, You are going to HATE me now! :p When you mentioned althernanthera, I remembered that my LFS had a sister store the next town over that I have heard sold that plant, so I went to check it out. (I too have been searching for this elusive plant.) Well, sure enough, they had it! :D They sold it in baskets for $4 each. They were a little small but considering how hard they are to find where I live, they were worth the price for me. Anyway, I chose the best two and took them up to the register. I was completely surprised when the cashier rang me up! The guy that bagged my plants marked them for a totally different price! I got these two baskets of alternanthera (8 stems with short roots in each basket) for...now brace yourself...$1.50 per basket! UNBELIEVABLE! My luck just keeps getting better! This is a day to go down in the books! :p

I don't like you tfish. I don't like you at all tfish. You're mean, and a show-off and I just don't like you very much at this moment tfish.
Where is this fish store......they're idiots there. Where is this store tfish, you mean person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said PLEASE don't hate me! ;)

Actually, it's crazy but this LFS is Pet Supplies Plus. I don't know if you have anything like that where you live, but it is just like a PetsMart. And just like PetsMart, some are okay, and some kind of stink. I am lucky enough to be by two (in the northeast Ohio area) that are pretty decent (as far as selection of plants. The fish I wouldn't buy even if they were giving them away -- the tanks are so tiny and there are always dead fish floating about.) The salespeople that I have run into are so far clueless, but that is fine by me because it is to my benefit!

I am sorry you are unhappy djlen. Peace offering: If it will make you feel any better, I can check to see if there are anymore tiger lotus bulbs and send you some? :D

djlen, just carefully pull yourself away from the computer. now go to the soothing bathroom and find your mirror. look yourself in the eyes and calmly but assuringly, chant softly to yourself that tfish still got his calender set on april 1st.

feel better?

Then I would have to put you on my "Buddy" list!!
Don't play with me tfish....Don't toy with my heart.
Alrighty then, that out of the way let's talk Alternanthera....just kidding....good luck with your new acquisitions and keep us posted.....but if you post any pictures I will consider it another of your mean, showoff pranks and won't like you ANYMORE.
