CF Lights...unplug endcap?

I'm wanting to reduce my lighting temporarily to get my tank balanced out. I've got 2 55 watt AH supply Cfs running off the same ballast. Can I just unplug one of the bulbs from its endcap, or do I need to leave both bulbs running? Also looking for ideas on a 1/2 hinged hood for this 29 gallon if anyone cares. Thanks

You can unplug one bulb if its wired correctly. If it isnt wired correctly then the other bulb will turn off.
