Threadfins are a schooling species, but how tight do they school? And what are the recomended number to keep a school of them? Any other info or experiences would be helpful...
That says nothing about schooling behanior. It told me everything else..... but nothing about how tight they school or how many should be kept together.....
sorry about that. i havent looked the entire site over, but it has a good species profile, so i thought it may give you some insight about certain behavior of certain species. if you find another site with alot of info on rainbows, please post it here. i think theyre excellent fish.
here's a couple of sites i found with a little more info. dont know how much this helps. if you know german, there seems to be a ton of info on threadfins with a google search.
I kept 8 threadfins in my first community tank and they pretty much hung out and shoaled very nicely togather.
I reckon a bigger shoal would be even nicer.
They are great fun to watch at feeding time.
Dont keep with fin nippers like tiger barbs ect.
Both say 5-12 or so in a school - and one mentioned keeping the male/female ratio equal in order to keep aggression in check. That is all I could find however. Hope this helps.
I read that there should be more females than males. I'm planning on getting a school of 6 or 7 so I will get 2 or 3 males. But I am by no means an expert. Thanks for the help...
