hello everybody, just need some tips on moving a tank setup, that has been running for about 4 weeks now onto a new bigger cabinet, that will house a sump/refugium in the near future. I have two clowns, one cleaner, two peppermint. LR (with lots of critters onit), dead sand. My question is to guys, Would i have to cycle again? or can use the same water.
thanks

If you are fast enough probably not. I would store my lr and critters in rubber maid containers until I had my sand bed in place. Then place the lr in the prefilled tank add live stock and voila it shouldn't even know that it's been moved. Just keep an eye on your params for the first day or so as you may have a mini cycle.

thanks for for that tip, it will be a case of, empty tank. remove tank. get ridd off old cabinet. place tank on new cabinet and fill with water and livestock after.

i'am hoping thats how it will work.

well, yo...i am going to be doing exactly the same thing over the christmas break...all be it, i have a lot to do though..I gotta build the stand first, install the new tank, install the plumbing and sump ( which i have never done before )...i can see plenty of rubber maids, powerheads and heaters being used on this task...Hope the swap over goes good for you..

I have to admit that i'am cheating,:Angel:someone is building the unit for me, and i probably wont install the sump/refug untill the new year(untill then i will do some research). But it is still going to be a bit of a job,as I still have not worked out how to do it yet or where to even start. :sad: But dont forget it is the holidays, take it easy, and have a drink, and hope it goes well for you. :bday:

you have to let us know how it went.

Good luck to both of you...I've moved tanks many times with no trouble. I usually do a 40% water change at the time so that I don't have to worry about so much water being moved. Rocks and substrate and fish are enough right?
2 bits of advice;
1. go slow--you've got more time to work with than you might think. But don't sit and watch a game in the middle---just don't rush.
2. now's the time to think about anything you might want to do---substrate additions or changes--rock arrangement---in Niko's case, plumbing--etc etc. You've got the tank broke down, there's no easier time for implementing something new.

Cheers Rb for them two valuable bits of advice..

I will be using all my water for this move as my new tank is just short of nearly twice as big as my old one, so, in prep, i shall be mixing and airing new salt water mix for 2 days before i move it all...It will be in effect, a 50% water change for me really..50% ( which is actually 100% ) of the old water and 50% new water..

I hve spend a good while planning this so hopefully, it will all go as planned and look stonking gorgeous when i have finnished..
