i bought a 29 gallon tank about 2 months ago let it fully cycle and have added the fish i wish to keep. 3 small kribs (2 females, 1 male) 2 small jewels(1 male,1 female), 2 small blue acaras(sex unknown) 2 medium convicts( agian sexes unknown) and 3 tiger babs. i have added as many rocks and hiding places as the tank can hold. However the larger convict has taken control of the tank and has began to bet up the other fish the smaller acara in particular, most of the fishes fins are getting nipped pretty badly is there anything i can do to prevent this in the future and is there anything i can do to help thier fins grow back:(

Heya end...

bad news im afraid.....
your tank is way too small for all those cichlids.........here we go..
the cons, jewels and acaras are all way too aggressive, and also probably a little large to go in a 29 -- i can see the cons coming out as the only fish left in the tank..
the tigers barbs will eventually dissapear, likely a tasty meal or three.....

heres what i'd suggest:-
1)get rid of everything except either ~ the cons or
the jewels or
the acaras
2)Keep the Kribs and tiger barbs, with room for maybe 3\4 more tigers, and a smaller ancistrus sp. and get rid of the rest.

You just have too much aggression, even more so if any of the cichlids including kribs start trying to breed.

I know its not easy, especially seeing the fish you really want, but that does always give you a good excuse to get that next bigger tank..

HTH.

All I can say is that I totally agree with firetank. You have 2 many cichlids in 2 small of a tank. If you don't remove some you will for sure have dead fish on your hands.
