Sounds like it's a less than common name. Google, Fish Base, and Planet Catfish don't come up with anything. Any additional details? What color is it? Whiskers? Mouth shape and orientation?
There are several lined catfish, many of which get much bigger than 8-9 inches. Cats with long whiskers tend to be predatory (meaning, any tankmate that fits in their mouth will end up there eventually). Cats with wide, forward facing mouths are usually predatory, mouths along the bottom of their mouth tend to be scavengers. Fish like plecos with their mouth on the bottom of their body and a strong, scaly 'tongue' are raspers--woody debris, algae and corpses make up most of their diet.

Could be a juvenile channel cat. I've seen them often in LFS--but they will outgrow most home aquariums.
Unless you can get a positive ID, I'd probably avoid it. You can check ww.planetcatfish.com and see if you find the fish there. Or, go to www.FishBase.com and search. THey have pics of many of them, plus you can use the scientific name to hit google.

http://www.aquariumplatax.it/africa1PRIV.htm has something by that extremely uncommon common name: it is called Clarotes laticeps in scientific terms. More to come as I research this fish.

its definently not a channel cat, ive been fishing since i was 3 i know them from a mile away :D
this fish isnt shaped like a channel cat (with a bigger head than body).. its body is shaped more like that of a small snake head, but its a green or olivish, with one thick dark stripe running its lateral line on each side..
OK im looking at so many catfish its rediculous. I know the color is way off then you discription but its body shape does it look like this????

It could be a one-line Pim. A Petsmart near me just got an order of them in. They're kind of a drab green/grey color. Look for a picture of "Pimelodella gracillis". I couldn't find a picture in my quick search, but that is the scientific name I found.

Found one. The ones Petsmart had weren't that orange looking, but that could just be the picture.
