Do you think that... possibly... possibly... cories and otos will school?

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
I'm thinking about what to put in my 30g, and I want cories cuz they're cute and otos cuz they eat algae.

If I only get like 2 otos, will they get lonely and school with the cories? I wasn't going to get many otos.

you can do both, the otos wont school with the cories, my dad has a school of about 10 or so cories and his poor little oto doesnt go anywhere near the cories. But i would go with a group of 5 or more otos cause they really do school, and its really fun to watch the little black fish shoot across the tank.

But i would go with the cories just cause youll see them more

personally i'd go with otos, just because i'm a pleco person and otos are a type of pleco.

but really you can get both. 4 otos and 6 cories is what i'd do.

I have both otos and corys in my community tank and both seem to live seperate lives.

Corys are all down in ht ebottom snarfling in the substrate, while the otos are hanging on a leaf on on the tank glass snarfling algea.

Have six of both, but very seldom do I see all at one time. Corys I can spot if I do a diligent search( they hide/live way down in the roots and such), otos are so small and also hide in the plants a lot.

Only reason I'm normally sure of their numbers (besides thats how many I've bought!) is when i tore down the tank a month ago to make room for the new/used 55, thats what the census was. At that time, also found some fish I thought I'd lost!

Neat fish!

On rare occasions my ottos will come out and munch on wafers with my cories, but for the most part they keep to themselves. Heck I only rediscovered my ottos about 3 months ago when they all showed up after a water change. It had been about 6 months running that I had figured they had all been lost.

Glad to hear this - I'm planning on otos, cories, amano & eventually cherry shrimp too for bottom, then sm schools of 3-4 different tetra species, a few zebra danios & a couple of rams or something for centerpiece fish (46g bow).
