Don't have anything specific to the red spotted, but lawnmower blennies in general will require a LOT of algae. If you only have a little bit, or in a few spots, this fish will be difficult for you to maintain. The lawnmower we have is constantly scouring the tank and chomping algae off the glass and rock. I've never seen him take ane of the prepared foods or sheet algae.

So how much is needed? I have a few rocks that are chock full of hair algae. I'd like to get one but I don't want him to starve. Oh, and sorry Clownandbilly for hijacking the thread:D

We leave the entire back and side of the 65 uncleaned, as well as the rocks, overflow box, ect. There are not any other fish in there that eat algae, and I worry that it's not enough. We have another tank that he can be moved into if needed. I class these guys as a worker fish--they are beautiful, and great personality, but if you can't provide it with a long term job, don't get one. Kind of like the aiptasia-eating nudibranchs.

Be sure that what you're looking at is actually a lawnmower blenny...the only "red-spotted blenny" that I've seen for sale from time to time is an obligate feeder on coral polyps.
