I hate to tell you this, dlt, but I think that your Oscar might be beyond saving at this point. I know that they are among the most pet-like fish, so I know how much it sucks to have to hear that, but I would consider putting the poor fish down.

It might just have the mucus due to open wounds to big to heal on its own. You could try melafix it says it repare damages fins and treats fin rot and tail rot.

Here is the discription they give.

Treats bacterial infections such as red ulcers, fin and tail rot, cloudy eyes, mouth fungus and others in as little as 4 days. All-natural tea tree extract also heals open wounds, ulcers and damaged fins. Doesn't affect pH, safe for invertebrates. 8 oz. treats 480 gallons of marine or freshwater. 64 oz. is a concentrated formula and treats 19,000 gallons.

Heres the link to the product.

Hope this helps. I would fill the same as you if this happened to my Jag.

I always keep melafix on hand. It really seems to help my fish when thay have an ailment. I also use salt and raise the temp. Not an expert but this has always worked for me. Good luck to you..:)
