Someone asked me if bamboo is safe to put in an aquarium and I didn't know. I'm assuming she meant a piece of bamboo, not the live plant. I have no idea.

You can put live Lucky Bamboo in an aquarium. (Dracaena sanderiana)

It can be grown in water but it must be kept in warmer water as cold water can damage the plant.

Do a search on "bamboo" and check out nvision's office tank, lovely bamboo sample :D

Bamboo sticks are being increasingly used in the aquarium. However they must be coated in a water vanish, such as those used in ponds (preferrably a clear one for aesthetical reasons, and one that will not affect water parameters or quailty). If they are not coated, then they will become logged with water, and go thready with strands coming off.

Hope this helps,
Michael.
