Bahamas plumbing question

Its been a while since my last tank, I have moved to the Bahamas and want to know if anyone has the plans to make an open loop system to the sea. The main problem is that because of the HIGH power bills I do not want to run my Iwaki 100 24 hours a day. What I want to do is run a closed loop through my sump and then about an hour a day run the open loop for a fresh flush. BTW I have a 125 gallon with a 30 sump and a huge beckett skimmer that I do not think I will use at all if I get this working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I was thinking that I should use an auto waterchange system but rather than having a bucket of water i just go to the ocean. Also if I have this setup, do I still need to run the protein skimmer or can I just keep fresh (sea)water in there? Has no one ever done this besides the big aquariums
 
Not that I know of. You will run into issues with plancton and pollution if you don't get your water from fairly deep or fairly far off shore like most of the big aquariums. You could also use a sand filter of sorts but, for what you are trying to do you'd have to do some fairly major construction. I'm sorry but, I don't think that it's very feasable.

it would take alot from the ocean that is bilged to the sea, cruise liners pump waste tanks etc to the ocean and that has a chance of getting into your tank and causing a real mess, it's not a smart idea to do.
